Castle By Charlotte Allpress

Conway castle My original idea was to base my design on Conway castle. I did a few ideas like the castle but added some different colors and took off and added some of my own details.

This is my finished Castle Front view of castle. Birds eye view of castle.

Castle The castle took quite along time to make. However the steps to making it was quite easy. This is a brief description of how I made it. First you draw a giant rectangle or however large you want it to be. Then you use the move tool and hold down control to copy the rectangle 6 times.

Putting the walls up To make the walls is easy. You simply make a wall on any of the squares. And since we know that all the squares are the same size, we select the move/copy tool and copy the walls.

Completing the walls The move and copy tool is useful to make walls. To make the back of the castle you just simply select the move/copy tool and pull the walls to the back. To make the side walls we have to create a new wall. You start from the point of the other walls then using the rectangle tool, you drag the rectangle until it touches the other wall. Then you find the midpoint and use the pencil tool to draw a line down the midpoint. Now you can easily make the walls on the inside.

The inside walls Using the copy/move tool you can drag the out side walls into the inside. To make the walk way up the top, you select the push pull tool and pull the walls out.

The texture of the castle The texture of the castle should be like this. To chose it, you go into the paint icon then chose stone and then select this texture. Then click on the surface and this texture should appear.

The towers

The towers- How to make them? The first step is to draw a basic square coming up from the wall. Then use the push/pull tool to make it 3D. Then get the pencil tool. To make the pointed roof you fin the midpoint and draw a line across. Then use the move tool to make the roof come up. Repeat the step for all the towers you plan on putting in your castle.

Basic design That was my basic design for my castle. It was quite a simple design. However it is not complete yet. You need to add extras like doors and flooring and a little bit of furniture if you would like to add some character to the castle.

Doors You need to add a door to get into the castle. To do this is simple. You draw a square on the front of the castle. Then you choose the arc tool and draw an arc on the top of the square. Then you erase the top of the square line. So it looks like this.

Door continued Now you chose the push/pull tool and push the door in until it says offset limited. When it says that, let go and your door leading into the castle should be complete.

Flooring The flooring is very simple. All you do is simply select the fill tool and chose what flooring you would like.

Furniture The furniture is not essential but it would be a good idea to include it. The furniture is easy to get because you go onto the Google sketch up 3d warehouse. However you must make sure that the furniture isn't too modern because it is a historical house. Some ideas of furniture would be maybe an old style pool, maybe some beds, a fountain and some other things you may find in a castle.

Garden To finish the castle off, you need to have a garden. It could be as simple as you want it. I got a few trees of the 3d warehouse. You may also want to make a river. My simple garden.

Something extra If you still feel like your castle isn't complete, do an animation. Just follow these simple steps. See next slide

Animation in Google Sketchup Step 1: Open up your castle Step 2: Click View > Animation > Create Scene. Step 3: Use the Orbit, Pan and zoom tools to move the model around. Step 4: Repeat the above two steps until you have a series of scenes. Step 5: Click View > Animation > Play to view the animation. Now you have done!

Finished? These have been my instructions for making the castle. However you may add some extra detail or decide to do something different. Now that you have finished, touch up any rough areas or neaten up some features of the castle e.g. any lines which need to be erased. You can even paste the castle onto Google Earth if you want to.

You have officially finished See the next slide to view my castle.
