1 Ivette Veiga Future of Education Instructor: Jennifer Wojcik

2 The first professional educators’ organization founded in 1886. FEA is a non profit organization formed by the union of two education association, The Florida Teaching Professions-NEA and FEA/United. This educational organization’ purposes are: 1. support local educational institutions, 2. advocates for public education and members, 3. keeps supporters of public education, communities and members united to focus on students’ learning environment that meet the expectations and criteria our society demands to guarantee our students’ learning success (Florida Education Association, 2013).

3 FEA has survived 127 years, and it will continue serving our teachers, students, and communities to improve education with “integrity, respect, empowerment, advocacy”. FEA assist teachers to get ready for the new standards offering professional developments, presenting websites to share teaches’ ideas and experiences, among others.

Florida educators are receiving and implementing new standards, which main porpoise is to ensure that all students graduate from high school prepared for college or for the workforce with a deeper knowledge work. “The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) were researched, written and developed by professional educators and education experts from across the United States” (Florida Department of Education, Common Core State Standards, para.1).

5 Technology is a great resource for students and teachers to reinforce students’ learning skills. Laptops, smart boards for interactive activities, game and gamification, digital storytelling and literacy, software, tablets with innumerable free application not only to reinforce instruction, but to help those whose condition affects their learning process, among others

6 The WAIT was developed in 1939 by David Wechsler, who led American Psychological Association. The test was designed to measure the intelligence in adults, children, and adolescents. (Wechsler, 1944, p. 3, as cited in Kaufman & Lichtenberger, 1999). He defined intelligence as an effect rather than a cause. The WISC has been revised throughout the years updating norms, current represented populations, materials, and changes to the questions. The current version, WISC-IV is a great tool used to determinate if a learning disability is present which is based on the child’s IQ scored on the tests. The test allows to determinate discrepancies between a child’s intelligence and performance at school.

7 These tests provide a verbal Intelligent Quotient (I.Q.) score, a Performance I.Q. score, and a Composite score based on the combined scores.
