2. Disposal Alert This symbol appears when care must be taken to dispose of materials properly.

3. Animal Safety This symbol appears whenever live animals are studied and the safety of the animals and the student must be ensured.

4. Biological Hazard This symbol appears then there is danger involving bacteria, fungi, or protists.

5. Radioactive Safety This symbol appears when radioactive materials are used.

6. Open Flame Alert This symbol appears when use of an open flame could cause a fire or an explosion.

7. Clothing Protection Alert This symbol appears when substances used could stain or burn clothing.

8. Thermal Safety This symbol appears as a reminder to use caution when handling hot objects.

9. Hand Washing Wash your hands thoroughly after each lab activity. Use antibacterial soap and warm water. Lather both sides of your hands and between fingers. Rinse well.

10. Sharp Object Safety This symbol appears when a danger of cuts or punctures caused by the use of sharp objects exists.

11. Explosion Safety This symbol appears when care should be taken around open flames.

12. Fume Safety This symbol appears when chemical reactions could cause dangerous fumes.

13. Heating Safety Use a clamp or tongs to pick up hot glass. Do not touch hot object with your bare hands.

14. Breakable Glassware This symbol appears when you are working with materials that may be breakable, such as glass containers, glass tubing, thermometers or funnels. Handle all glassware with care. Do not touch broken glass.

15. Eye Safety This symbol appears when a danger to the eyes exists. Safety goggles should be worn when this symbol appears.

16. Electrical Safety This symbol appears when care should be taken when using electrical equipment.

17. Poison Safety This symbol appears when poisonous substances are used.

18. Plant Safety This symbol appears when poisonous plants or plants with thorns are handled.

19. Chemical Safety This symbol appears when chemicals used can cause burns or are poisonous if absorbed through the skin.

20. Gloves Required Use gloves when working with chemical and organisms. Keep hands away from mouth and face. Dispose of gloves as instructed by your teacher.
