International level: –have CBD's work programme require countries to institutionalise periodical assessments –develop agreed minimum set of benchmarks/indicators on PA mgt effectiveness –identify institution that can host international database and carry out periodical analysis WWF-Canon / D. WWF's Forests for Life Programme: Presentation to WPC, 12/09/03 Recommendation 10 … requires parties of the CBD to: a) adopt and institutionalise periodical protected areas management effectiveness assessments by 2005. Such country-wide "State of the Parks" Assessments should be used as a basis for regular and periodical reporting of the Parties to CBD. These assessments should be based on the IUCN WCPA Best Practice Series publication n° 6 Evaluating Effectiveness: a Framework for Assessing Management of Protected Areas".
