Thoughts and Feelings, Fears, Strengths and Weaknesses as you began Candidate Teaching. My first fear was that I would do everything wrong. I was afraid I would not be able to handle the ways of fifth graders. I was afraid I would not be smarter than a fifth grader. I was afraid they would not like me and treat me like the dreaded substitute.

Philosophy BeforeNow Treat all students the same You have to treat the students in a way that is fair for them individually. All teachers should adhere to the code of ethics. I still believe this, but I have come to a realization that not all teachers will do this. I just have to believe in myself and follow what I know is right. What if I cannot control the chaos. “Controlled Chaos!” Do not let the kids get to you. Think before you speak. Elementary students will not do anything wrong. You have to be prepared for anything.

PART III. CONCLUSION Approximately 3 Minutes

Continuing to Plan as an Educator I am anxious to learn more with each class and child I have as a teacher. I feel that in order to be an effective teacher, one must continue to be willing to learn. I am nervous about being in the classroom by myself because I will not have any one there to guide me. I have a long term sub position coming up, and I am very excited to get a true feeling for the classroom by myself. I am nervous about being able to get it all done with the time limit I have. I feel like I have to constantly stay on my toes to stay ahead of the children as their minds grow. I want to be a constant “Bucket Filler.” I hope that my students see me as someone they can look up too.

Author’s Purpose AP1

Author’s purpose is the reason why the text was written. An author may write for many reasons. Some authors write stories that are not true, or stories that are fiction. These stories are written to entertain the audience. An author may give you facts or true information about a subject. If so, they are writing to inform. Other authors may write to persuade or to try to get you to do something. AP2

To Persuade: The author’s goal is to persuade you (the reader) to agree with their opinion. The author may provide factual information to persuade you to share his/her opinion. Examples: commercials, advertisements, newspaper editorials, etc. AP3

To Inform: The author’s goal is to enlighten you (the reader) with topics that are usually real and contain facts. Examples: cookbooks, textbooks, newspapers, encyclopedias, etc. AP4

To Entertain: The author’s goal is to tell you (the reader) a story. They will describe characters, places, and events. The characters, places and events may be real or fiction. Examples: stories, poems, plays, comic strips, etc. Back
