Employers Responsibility Employers are responsible for providing multiple access and exit points in the occurrence of a fire. They are required to insure that all employees know where the access and exit points are. They are responsible for making sure that the employees know the fire rules and regulations.

Additional Responsibilities The final emergency exit doors must open outwards and not be sliding or revolving. Emergency lighting to cover the exit routes where necessary. Fire fighting equipment, fire alarms and where necessary fire detectors.

Emergency exit routes In the event of a fire sometimes some of the fire exits are blocked off. It is then the responsibility of the employer to make sure that there is another exit route available and that all employees are aware of it. An emergency plan may have to be prepared and sufficient workers trained and equipped to carry out their functions within any such plan.

Employee’s responsibility Make sure to know the fire and safety regulations. To know all fire exit points and routes. Set off the fire alarm if a fire is sighted. Leave the fire exits open and that they aren't blocked.

Risk Assessments Employee’s, Employer and safety officers should assess the danger that some equipment may cause and if it is worth the risk.
