AIM of MESMA The MESMA project focuses on contributing to a sustainable development of seas and coastal areas MESMA will produce management tools for monitoring, evaluation and implementation of Spatially Managed Areas (SMAs)
Aim of our visit Black sea case study -Exchange knowlegde -Governance study Black Sea region -Perform research: questionnaire, interview and observation.
Who benefits from MESMA? Beneficiaries: –governments, –local authorities, –stakeholders, –managerial bodies for planning and decision making –the public in general
Governance in MESMA Johnston (2000) refers to Governance as: the involvement of a wide range of institutions and actors in the production of policy outcomes….. involving coordination through networks and partnerships
Research topics Governance 1.Combining top-down role of state and bottom- up participative approaches 2.Inter-sectoral integration and related power issues including compensation (in emerging MSP framework) 3.Cross-border issues between countries 4.Justice issues 5.Influence of differences in knowledge and the influence of uncertainty in decision- making.
