IsTertiaryEducationPossible For Me? In Nigeria Statisense Wale Micaiah

160 million We are a country of over 160 million people Youth population 70million Our Youth population is over 70million

70million 70million is more than the population of over 220 countries of 242 of the World! France Italy South Africa Canada South Korea Argentina Singapore Ghana Venezuela

Of this 70million, over 1million sit for Tertiary institutions’ entrance exams (UTME) yearly UTME – Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination

All these youngsters have gone through 12 years of formal Education (6–3–3–4 System) 6 G2 & National Common Entrance Examination 3 Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination 3 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination

In 2008, 1million In 2009, 1.1million In 2010, 1.3million In 2011, 1.4million In 2012, 1.5million In 2013, 1.7million All these, applied to University, Polytechnic/Monotechnic or College of Education to study one course or the other.

Tertiary Institutions University Poly/Mono COEIEI Federal (40) State (38) Private (50) 128 117 57 128 + 128 + 117 + 57 = 430

430 Institutions, for 1.7million candidates

For most, securing admission in Nigeria is more difficult than this:

At best effort, less than 30% of total applicants get admitted yearly. In fact, for the 2013/2014 academic sessions where 1.7million Candidates sat for the UTME; the Minister of Education & the JAMB registrar have said at different fora “that only about 520,000 admission spaces are available for the 1.7million”

A little Math: 1,735,729 – 520,000 = 1,215,729 1.2million would be denied admission automatically, irrespective of their performance!

If a large chunk of a Nation’s Youth continually experience this, what do you think would be their attitude to Success & Schooling?

Among these are prospective Doctors, Nurses, Accountants, Lawyers, Teachers, Engineers, Farmers, Scientist, Poet, Journalist, Pharmacist, Economist, Researchers, Psychologist, Botanist, Pilots Architect

Tertiary Education Possible For Me? This is the reason why they ask year-in, year-out; Is Tertiary Education Possible For Me?

Recent statistic say: “ About 60% of Students in Ghanaian Universities are Nigerians ” Several are in other African countries; countless are in UK, US, Canada, Russia and Asia – excelling!

If 70% of a Nation’s future is not engaged, productively; what does that translate into?

A Sorry future or Sound Future CHOICE

The Youth represents the Future, the Strength & the Foundation of an Enviable Country

We’ve got young Men & Ladies, who are hungry for Glory and well deserving Future Only if the right environment can be provided; where they can fly, reach for the sky, without limitation, achieve their academic dreams and bring Glory, Honor and Respect to the Nation!

We’ve got the number, we’ve got to put it in the right use; that our Future might be brighter, and habitable! If we enable each Man and Woman to pursue their dreams, they might catch up with them and become better individuals.

Creating Mega Schools is an option! Revamping old generation institutions is also another option! Empowering the newly created institutions is a great alternative! Investing more in Education is non- negotiable – having put in place a proper accounting system.

Creating an Educated Youth populace is possible; Peace is Possible! Prosperity is Possible Enviable Country is Possible
