3 Reasons for rejection Schools from different villages in the same county have the same director as the school from the main village (13 schools) In some small villages selected schools had only 1-4 grades (5 schools) Some schools no longer exist because there were only few pupils attending (2 schools – Dolj, Timis) 3 schools were located in areas hard to reach (prison) or the roads to them were impassable (Danube Delta) Number of direct rejections: 4 schools (2 repeated postponements, 2 complete refusals)

6 Recommendations – data analysis Pre-coding of 10% of the answers for the open ended questions done by the research coordinators Translation of the open ended questions took a lot of time and might not be necessary if a joined meeting is organized with all the researchers targeting possible categories and what should fit in each of them

7 Recommendations – fieldwork activity In spite of field researchers some respondents could not offer specific answers for the open ended questions E.g. For question S20A regarding the categories of parents who were offered school supplies some respondents gave general answers such as parents with social problems, parents with problems. Specific training recommendations for the field researchers targeting different meanings for vulnerable groups: social problem financial problems As a back up some categories could be offered where the field researcher would be asked to fill in the respondents answer Extended fieldwork

8 Conclusions - positive NO problems with the questionnaire Questions were easily understood and did not require any further explanation Positive remarks in relation to the subject Willingness to cooperate (Ministry of Education support) Questionnaire duration: approximately 45 minutes

9 Conclusions - negative Interviews were mostly realized during second or even third visit Meetings were set up with difficulty 4 failed interviews out of 700 schools contacted Fieldwork had to be slightly prolonged as a result of the yearly national tests planned in this period (from the 30 th of May to 5 th of June) Postponement of the final deadline for the database preparation from the 11 th of June to the 16 th of June
