Option 1 or Option 2 – each has its own set of questions to be answered; make sure you follow the instructions for the option you have selected. Answer all the questions in your outline. Read the project directions, as well as the rubrics in the syllabus before submitting your final. If you create a Power Point, please don’t bother with clip art, do try to keep the backgrounds and font types consistent. They can become distracting otherwise. Please make sure it can be read easily. Dark font on dark backgrounds can be hard to read. If you select Option 1 (the paper), you should include sub headings, such as “Who Am I?” – It is fun to make up your own too. 4 Subheadings in Papers Subheading Your paragraphs should be indented in your papers. format. Your paragraph will be written in Times New Roman or Arial Font size 12. It should be double-spaced. Your sub headings can be aligned to the left and italicized. Each paragraph should be about 5 to 7 sentences long (at least). If you are making a PPT, then your subheading will go at the top of your slide. Do you see the words “Subheadings in Papers”? That is my heading for this slide. You will want to do the same for your PPT. Any Questions about how to format subheadings in papers or PPTS?

14 The Case of Eduardo Taking tests is something that you will encounter repeatedly during your academic career, and understanding the “art” of test taking can help you succeed with each test. During this seminar, we will discuss the “Case of Eduardo."  One of the connections important in this week’s reading material is the connection between the ability to plan and prepare and good problem-solving abilities. For example, if you have taken good notes, and then take the time to study and review them thoroughly, you will have a much better chance of succeeding on the exam and solving any problems that you may encounter while taking the exam.

15 The Case of Eduardo Eduardo didn’t like taking tests in high school.
He studied with friends late at night in a cram-session. He waited until the last minute to cram. He performed poorly on exams whether or not the cram-session seemed effective. He was nervous during the exams and forgot the material. He never did well on exams and his grades suffered. Case of Eduardo

16 Eduardo Needs Our Help! He is now taking an online college course requiring him to complete two exams. For the first exam, he did the same thing he did in high school – crammed the night before, became nervous during the exam, and failed. For the second exam, he refused to let this happen again and realized that he needed to utilize more effective test preparation strategies.  Consider the discussions of good study habits and note taking skills from last week; what advice would you suggest to Eduardo for passing his next exam?

18 How is test prep related to stress?
Eduardo often became stressed and anxious during his exams. How is test preparation directly related to stress/anxiety levels before, or during, an exam? Studying doesn’t have to be murder, or does it?

19 Study System: MURDER Mood:
Set a positive mood for yourself to study in. Select the appropriate time, environment, and attitude Understand: Mark any information you don't understand in a particular unit; Keep a focus on one unit or a manageable group of exercises Recall: After studying the unit, stop and put what you have learned into your own words Digest: Go back to what you did not understand and reconsider the information; Contact external expert sources (e.g., other books or an instructor) if you still cannot understand it Expand: In this step, ask three kinds of questions concerning the studied material: If I could speak to the author, what questions would I ask or what criticism would I offer? How could I apply this material to what I am interested in? How could I make this information interesting and understandable to other students? Review: Go over the material you've covered, Review what strategies helped you understand and/or retain information in the past and apply these to your current studies (Hayes, 1989).

20 Have you ever crammed for a test?
Eduardo followed a similar pattern on his first college test that he used in high school; cramming for exams, however, can be problematic. Why might this (cramming) cause a problem when taking tests? What is a better plan?

21 No more stress? We discussed in a previous unit the importance of recognizing stress, or positive stress. How can stress actually help you improve your performance on tests? Study Buddy Tip: Review course material with other students in a virtual study room (for example, you can create a study room via AOL Instant Messenger or meet in the Chat area of the classroom): Ask each other questions and practice typing your answers. This form of practice challenges you to write your thoughts before you take the test.
