9/14/20156 Collaborative

9/14/20157 What is Collaboration Working together to accomplish more then any one person or agency can do alone. Newer, never before seen opportunities emerge It requires a Beginners Mind in dealing with all things. It concentrates on the positive in order to build something new.

9/14/20158 The Collaborative Vision Common Concerns & Opportunity Old Way Ministries not communicating but hoping to successfully reach the same goal Common Concerns & Opportunity Partnership Way Ministries retaining their individual identity but linked in a common vision and empowered by a facilitator or facilitation team

9/14/20159 Difference Between Network and Collaboration Networking is where organizations talk together and learn what others are doing primarily to help their own organization. Collaboration is where organizations go beyond talking to actually work together in new and different ways.

9/14/201510 Why Collaborate Much more can be accomplished then doing things alone. It reduces the tendency to reinvent the wheel. Fewer resources are used more effectively. It builds real power in the group It brings results of 40, 50, 100 fold. It encourages the use of complimentary gifts,

9/14/201514 Roadblocks to Collaboration It’s not our idea – never done it this way before It’s not our idea – never done it this way before Real or perceived theological differences Real or perceived theological differences Organizational or leadership pride Organizational or leadership pride Focus on structure rather than on vision Focus on structure rather than on vision Unwillingness to share success Unwillingness to share success Fear of what our constituency will think Fear of what our constituency will think Fear we will “compromise” our values Fear we will “compromise” our values Can’t see the value to our vision/mission Can’t see the value to our vision/mission Broken relationships/lack of trust Broken relationships/lack of trust

9/14/201515 What Will It Cost Openness: To others, to the potential of working together rather than going it alone Time: To build and maintain the relationships of trust needed for effective collaboration Resources: Prayer, time for team participation, money, commitment to joint effort Vulnerability: Readiness to disclose both strengths and weaknesses of our ministry – join hands with others to accomplish more Risk: Reduced “control,” dependence on others not directly under your authority, possible security questions
