The Genius: Bombs of Intelligence Madison Sullivan

Early Life Einstein was born March 14, 1955 in Ulm, Wΰrttemberg, Germany. His parents were Hermann and Paulina Koch Einstein. He attended elementary and secondary school in Munich, and Aarau, Switzerland. At age five, Einstein became interested in compasses.

Personal Life Einstein studied math and physics at Swiss Polytechnic Institute in Zurich, where he graduated from in 1900. His first job was at a Swiss Patent Office in Bern. He spent his free time leading scientific investigations. He became a Swiss citizen in 1905. He was married twice. His first wife was a physicist named Mileva Maric. He had two sons and a daughter with his first wife. His second wife, whom he married after WWI, was his cousin, Elsa. He gained two stepdaughters through his second wife.

In 1909, Einstein became a professor at the University of Zurich in Switzerland. In 1911 and 1912, he became the same professor at German University in Prague. Shortly after, Einstein went to the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. For several years, Einstein sought to further the cause of Zionism. He was offered the presidency of Israel, which he declined. Once he became a citizen of The United States, Einstein accepted a position at Princeton for life. He settled down in New Jersey and lived there until his death.

Nazi Government In 1914, Einstein gained German citizenship. He quickly became director at Kaiser Wilhelm’s Physical Institute. In 1933, while Einstein was visiting The United States and England, the Nazi government took his property. Upon his return, they deprived him of his possessions and citizenship.

Accomplishments The theory of relativity, E=MC². He contributed three papers to Annalender Physik, a German scientific periodical. He invented the quantum theory. In 1915, Einstein created a general theory based on the special theory of covariant equations. In 1921, he received the Nobel Peace Prize of physics. The New Yorker published a story by John Hersey in 1946 called “Hiroshima.” Einstein bought thousand of copies and distributed them to friend. The word Einstein is now synonymous with the word genius.

E=MC² In 1905, Einstein discovered this theory while attempting to reconcile Maxwell’s electromagnetic theory. This equation shows that the sum of an object’s mass and it’s energy equivalent are always the same. He published his theory of relativity in 1905.

Atomic Bomb In 1939, he singed a letter to President Franklin D. Roosevelt urging him to develop an atomic bomb before Germany did. The atomic bomb would illustrate that his theory, E=MC², was legitimate. Albert Einstein did not directly participate in building the atomic bomb, instead, he directed the development of it. The secret building of the atomic bombs was called the Manhattan Project.

Once the bombs were dropped on August 6 th and August 9 th, 1945, Einstein held off one year until he made any comments on the nuclear weapons he contributed to developing. Einstein later said, "I made one great mistake in my life... when I signed the letter to President Roosevelt recommending that atom bombs be made; but there was some justification - the danger that the Germans would make them."

Later Life Even though Einstein was never well off, he never worried about money. For months leading up to his death publishers from around the world offered him large sums of money for a autobiography. He never considered it. April 17, 1955, Albert Einstein experienced internal bleeding caused by the rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. He passed away the very next day, April 18, 1955.
