3 3 Each Finalist can self-nominate for up to three Special Awards Self – Nomination Examples The Manning Innovation Achievement Awards Renewable Energy Award Canadian Stockholm Junior Water Prize Some projects will be ill-matched to the criteria. Judge them with enthusiasm. Round 1 is about celebrating the finalist’s achievement, not just on selecting the winner.

6 6 Role of Chair 1 Judging is scheduled. Ask if anyone has a conflict of interest with any of the projects. If they do, arrange that they do not judge this project. Judges interview students for a maximum of 8 minutes. Two minutes for the decision: Top 20%? Yes or No. Put the YES Project Forms in the YES folder (20%) Put the NO Project Forms in the NO folder (80%) Select the members of the judging teams for Round Two Release the other judges. Round One Lead the team through the process Chair the discussion

7 7 Role of Chair 2 Engage the judges on the bilingual and French speaking teams in the process. Divide the “Yes” projects from round 1 amongst the round 2 judges. Judge these projects a second time for 10 minutes maximum. Put the YES Project Forms in the YES folder (20%) Put the NO Project Forms in the NO folder (80%) In most awards, you will be ready to select the winner. Repeat this process for Round 3 if required. Give the Final Result Form to the Chief Judge Operations. Put all the remaining paperwork into the box on the table of the Chief Judge Operations Round Two Round Three

8 8 Timetable Round One Time: 2:30 – 3:30 First round interview is scheduled. First Interview starts at 2:30 pm. Eight minutes per interview; 2 minutes to make your decision. 6 Interviews per judge maximum. Each project is judged twice. In discussion with your partner, select the top 20% for Round Two.

9 9 Timetable Round Two Distribute the contents of the Round 1 YES amongst the judges. Maximum of 5 projects per judge. Judges interview these students for 10 minutes max. Don’t interview students you met in Round 1 Return to your tables at 5:00 pm Discuss as a group the final rankings

10 10 Round Three If Required Most Awards will be selected at the end of Round 2 A third round may be required for a few awards Final result is by consensus of the judges participating in the final round Complete Final Results Form and hand it in to the Special Award Chairs. Finalists leave the judging hall at 5:30 pm

11 11 Judging Form Renewable Energy Award - Junior An outstanding project related to both energy and air quality with a demonstrated interest in environmental stewardship.
