Agenda 4/17 Focus: What is T.S. Eliot is trying to do in Prufrock? Listening for Prufrocks secrets Using TPCASTT to tap into Prufrock Prufrocks and Gatsbys PostSecretsPostSecret HW: Follow the website calendar. (Youre just finishing what you dont finish in classTPCASTT and Postsecrets)
As you listen… What you are about to listen to is an actual recording of T.S. Eliot reading his poem, J. Alfred Prufrock. On your notes from yesterday on Modernism, please write down words, images, phrases, and perhaps even entire lines that stand out as you listen. When youre finished listening to the poem, please pick any three of your images/lines that relate to the topics of Modernism we discussed yesterday. Be sure to explain your connections. When everyone is finished, share your thoughts with the class.
TPCASTT Please open the two documents linked to todays in-class activities on the website calendar. Use the TPCASTT method to work your way through Prufrock. You may work with a partner or by yourself. Work slowly and carefully; if you rush through it, you will be wasting your time. Be as thorough as you can be. Try not to get frustrated; this is a challenging poem, and Im looking forward to your interpretations. If you do not finish in class, please finish for homework. If you do finish in class, please print your work and give it to Mrs. Summers.
Postsecret If you finish your TPCASTT analysis before the end of class, you can start on tonights homework, which is to create two electronic Postsecrets: One for Prufrock and one for Gatsby. Think about it this way: What secret is Prufrock subtly revealing to you through this poem? What secret would one of the characters (or Fitzgerald himself) reveal? Try to go beyond the obvious and use your creativity and your powers of inference. If youre not too familiar with Postscret, take a look at the Postsecret link on the agenda. Be ready to dropbox your postsecrets at the beginning of class tomorrow.
