The Mortara Center for International Studies Invites you to attend a film event featuring The Long March A National Geographic Film Directed and Presented by Diane Zhang General Secretary at the Institute of Human Ecology in Beijing, China Director of Poverty Lift Program in Ruoergai County, Sichuan, China Visiting Mortara Associate 2007-08 The film traces the massive military undertaking by the Red Armies of the Communist Party of China who in 1934 escaped through some of the most difficult terrain of western China by marching several thousand miles to the west then to the north. Only one-tenth of the force that left Jiangxi survived, including the father of the Director, who later became the Minister of Defense in China. This will be an opening seminar of the year for the students on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 5:30 pm in the 7th FLOOR ICC CONF. ROOM. Purpose is to introduce students to faculty and to program and awards opportunities. Mike Green has graciously agreed to give a short talk on the "Rise of Asia." We will also have food for a reception.
