3 To “Characterize” is to help develop a character or thing through description. 1.Physical appearance 2.Speech, thoughts, feelings or actions 3.Direct description by the author How many ways can you describe the person or thing from the stop you have chosen?

4 “Theme” is the main idea in a work of literature. It is a perception about life or human nature that the writer shares with the reader. It is NOT stated, but inferred. Themes can often be stated in one word.

5 Write a poem based upon the THEME you have selected and use as many of the descriptions from your CHARACTERIZATION as possible to add detail to your poem.

6 1.Your Poem must have a title! 2.Your Poem must contain multiple STANZAs! 3.Your Poem must contain a minimum of 14 or 15 lines. 4.Use size 12 font.

8 Your goal is to create a poem that uses the story of The Odyssey, or an event within the story, as an ALLUSION. Your poem is not supposed to retell or summarize The Odyssey, only make mention of it.
