TECHNOLOGY BY:LUIS CEPEDA Per 4/5 iPad & Fly Pen Fusion Current Events Project #2

iPAD The iPad, beautifully designed by Steve Jobs and the Apple Industrial Design Group located in Cupertino California. Its Capabilities and possibilities are endless. Beginning With its 9.7 inch multi-touch screen with LED-backlight is just breath taking. Also with its 1Ghz Apple A4 custom processor gives you the nice and reliable blazing fast speed for any tasks. The iPad is a Revolutionary product on the market used by hundreds of companies and millions of consumers worldwide. The Reason for the iPad was to create a laptop with a touch screen that was light-weight and portable.

How can this change the classroom? Well the Ipad has built in Wi-Fi so you can surf the web where ever there is a wireless router or access point. The iPad also has this feature that comes with it and its called notes. This would be helpful to write something quick down maybe a formula or something. Surfing the web on the iPad is easy especially if we have an assignment were we need the internet for it.

The Apple App Store has thousands of apps available. There is bound to be at least one app that relates to math. But wait there is. I came upon this article while doing my research and it is called: The Top 10 iPod Touch Apps to Use in Math Class By: Jonathan Willie

Basically in this article it talks about the top 10 apps to use in a math class and what they do. These were the apps:://www.brighthub.com/education/k- 12/articles/63422.aspx#ixzz14MnbrrL Basic Math Math Drills Math Tutor iFormulasNumber Line Sudoku Quick Graph Touch Calc. TanZen Units

I actually tested these apps on my iPod Touch. The app that caught my eye the most was the “Quick Graph”. The reason it caught my eye was because it is 3d. You can zoom in and out if you wanted to get closer and you can maneuver around the points. Most apps that are out for the iPhone or iPod Touch are also formatted to fit the iPad’s screen.

Fly Pen This is not your average pen. The Fly Pen introduced by Leapfrog in July 5 2007, changed the pen like the iPhone did to the phone. What this pen can do is just amazing. It’s the second version for the Fly Pen 1.0. The Fusion has a little camera at the end of the pen to see what your writing. Something you probably didn’t know about this pen is that you can play a piano or even a drum set on it. Oh yeah I said it you can literally draw a piano or drum set and play them by touching the drum or key. Not only can you do this but also you can draw your self a calculator that works! People would have never imagined to use a calculator of a piece of paper. But there is special paper that is associated with this pen and that is called fly paper. You can only use this pen with that paper. Fusion

Fly Pen That’s not it, there are other special features that you might not have noticed. In my last slide I showed a picture of the pen, and on the top of the pen there are special cartridges that can be removed and changed. The cartridge slot is for cartridges with pre-installed programs you can buy for it like you would a video game for a PS3 or Xbox. There is a few cartridges that relate to math and those are Algebra, Math Comp and Multiplication & Division. You can write out your problems and it can go step by step helping you solve the problem. Also you can set it into note mode. In this mode you can take note say during class and it records everything you write so you can go home and connect it to the software given to you when you purchased this product, it loads up all your notes so they look nice and neat. And how it relates to math

Plummeting Technology that is and will plummet is the Ipad. The reason for this is it will definitely save trees because of its integrated iBook app that lets you download books straight to the iPad that you buy from the iBook store. And because its also more light weight than most books and looks amazing. And eventually go down in price. And they’re thinking of adding FaceTime and front facing camera to the iPad and this program is the one in the iPhone 4 that allows you to video call.

New Advancements in Tech Nissan has just released the worlds first “Electric Car”. This is the Nissan Leaf. This car is powered by multiple ion batteries. This car would take about 16 hours to charge in the US and 8 hours in Europe. Nissan is going to put what they call Super Charge Station in Gasoline Stations, witch would charge the battery in 30 min. The reason its new in advancements its not only because its electric but its eco friendly. You would pay almost 3 dollars a gallon for gas that would only get you about 30 miles as for the Nissan you pay one dollar worth of electricity that would get you about 36 miles. For now it goes about 35,000. This seems like a lot of money but in the long run it will end up cheaper than having a Hybrid.

Conclusion Technology has come a long way from the worlds first computer weighing about 30 short tons to the iPad weighing about 1.6 pounds. And from a dip pen to a pen top computer. Technology is what keeps our world running. You cant imagine a life without it. It makes our life easier in education and in life. So that’s how these two technologies could change the future in the classroom.
