2 Early Death Penalty Laws The first established death penalty laws date as far back as the Eighteenth Century in the Code of King Hammaurabi of Babylon. The first recorded execution in the new colonies was that of Captain George Kendall in the Jamestown colony of Virginia in 1608. Kendall was executed for being a spy for Spain.

7 Pros The pro side argues that man’s innate desire to live and a fear of death aids in preventing and decreasing crime. People who do support the death penalty, say it is morally justified in cases like murder. The death penalty guarantees that those executed will not commit more crimes.
