2 Let’s talk about your resume… Heading: Name: big and bold contact information (address and phone number) professional e-mail address Objective: specify the position you are applying for (preferable 1-2 sentences) Summary of Qualifications or skills: list 2-5 points of important information (optional section) Certification: list all certifications that relate to the position you are applying for

3 Education: degree obtained school where degree was earned location of school graduation date Work Experience: job title with dates listed (month/year format) place of employment including location job duties using action words (bullet format) Technical Skills: list computer skills list other skills related to major

5 Preparing for the interview: Suggested information to review on the company: Name, age, location Current competitors Types of products or services

6 Employers want to know… Are you qualified for the job? Do you have experience in the field? What do you bring to the job? What are your strengths or certifications? What motivates you? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? What did you like most about your last job? What motivates you? Are you a good fit? What type of environment are you most comfortable with? Do you like team work or do you prefer to work alone? What type of team work have you done? Do you want the job? What are you looking for in a position? What interests you about this position? What do you know about the company? What attributes do you bring to the company?

7 Your two minute commercial 1.Personal and Education (15 Seconds) - This is the time for you to tell the potential employer information such as your hometown and state, personal attributes, and education, especially as it relates to the position in which you are applying. 2.Early Career/Life Experiences (15-30 seconds) - This is the time to share your past work experience or life experiences relevant to the job. 3.Recent Work History/Life Experience (45-60 seconds) - this is the time for you to give examples of accomplishments or reasons why you are the best fit for the job. 4.Why are you here? (15-30 seconds) – speak with enthusiasm and positivity about your interest in the job and the company.

8 For example: I earned my Associates in Applied Science degree in Industrial Electronics. While attending college, I received hands on experience in PLC, Relay Logic/Motor Controls and Automation. I have worked independently as well as part of a team in making sound decisions. I am able to rely on my experiences and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. I strive to perform all job duties in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all safety standards. I am also certified through OSHA training and Alabama Career Readiness. I believe I have the key traits to be successful in Industrial Electronics. I have good common sense, can juggle multiple tasks and have a positive attitude. I think my greatest strength is my capacity to get along with a diverse group of people and personalities.

10 Keep in mind Looking for a FT job is a FT job in itself. Be prepared to spend several hours each day searching and applying online. Keep track of the places you have applied and let your references know to be expecting a call. Be realistic when job searching. Look for entry level positions. Sometimes its just getting your foot in the door that will lead to bigger and better opportunities.
