2 Section 1 – People of the Plains ______ - most native Americans moved from place to place as they followed their main source of food – the __________ __________ construction – went a long way to kill off the buffalo population and the way of life for prairie natives May 10 th, ______ in Promontory Point, Utah – the silver spike that completed the railroad was hammered in. _______________ – became a common occurrence for people travelling on the train ….needless to say they would not use any of the meat or carcass.

In 1881, the Sioux finally surrendered. Wounded Knee – 190 unarmed natives were killed by American troops

It was unsuccessful because natives were nomadic and wanted to move from one spot to another. Real estate speculators and dishonest government officials took _______ million acres of the _________ million acres that had been given to them.

Some herds could be _________ cows with _____ cowhands looking after them. Some problems with the cattle industry were drought, disease, floods, cold winters and rustlers.

I wish to God this country was just like it was when I first saw it and that none of you folks were here at all.”

One is a crop of corn, one a crop of freight rates and one a crop of interest. One is produced by farmers, who sweat and toil, from the land. The other two are produced by men who sit in their office and behind their bank counters and farm the farmers.”
