21 Research, Development and Innovation
Research, developent and innovation (RDI) is one of the basic tasks of the university of applied sciences Oulu UAS’s RDI work serves teaching and supports the development of Oulu Region and the whole Northern Finland by producing skilled workforce, supporting business operations, developing innovation activities and increasing international interaction. RDI work is guided by Oulu UAS’s strategic focus and development areas: Internet and ICT Energy and environment Health and well-being Creative industries Internationalisation Entrepreneurship Sustainable development

22 Research, Development and Innovation
Oulu UAS’s RDI work is also guided by the Oulu Innovation Alliance strategic agreement signed between Oulu UAS, City of Oulu, University of Oulu, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and Technopolis Plc. The aim is to maintain Oulu's position as an internationally acknowledged centre for innovation Oulu UAS together with the other founding members has commited to concentrating operations on the agreed innovation areas, investing in agreed infrastructure and developing mechanisms for joint usage. Target areas are internet research (CIE), printed electronics (PrintoCent) and internationals business operations (MAIGBE).

31 Aims of Internationalisation
To be part of university’s basic task and daily activities. To improve education and methods of learning and teaching together with international partners and experts. To promote students’ and teachers’ interaction with partners abroad > to offer opportunities. Active and mutually beneficial exchange programmes for both staff and students > to train students and staff for a multicultural and international society.

32 International Collaboration
Oulu University of Applied Sciences aims at promoting genuine international collaboration with strong partnerships between institutions. Oulu University of Applied Sciences has signed bilateral agreements with about 160 European, eight Asian, three North American and two African partners. Altogether, there are exchange and other co-operation opportunities in over 30 countries.
