4 The use of ICT for development of e-society in Sweden and Finland 4 Swe Sweden FinCom.Swe In 1999, the Government decided that Swedish ministries and the authorities should lead by example in the use of IT in Sweden Nearly 90% of the country’s public institutions have their own website and can be contacted via email. 1. Technological Situations More than 50% of all households in Sweden have a PC; more than 50% of all Swedes have cellular telephones; and more than 50% of all Swedish adults use the Internet. In the spring of 2001 nearly all companies in Sweden had access to the Internet. 94% of all companies had access to the Internet and 97% used computers.

E-Commerce E-commerce is defined as the extent to which a country business environment is ready for Internet-based commercial opportunities. Sweden has overtaken the US to become the leading nation in terms of E-commerce, according to new research from the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). Sweden’s 20 largest ICT companies [ICT in fact,2003]

Kista Science City Kista Science City holding a central position in the Stockholm region, just 15 minutes from Arlanda airport and 15 minutes from the city center - is one of the most important ICT-clusters in Europe. In the core areas of Kista alone, some 27,000 people work in over 700 companies. Two-thirds of them are employed by companies working in the ICT area. Whether it's mobile communications and specialist software, diagnostics and other aspects of health care, or advanced processes and materials.

ICT Infrastructure Finland is one of the world’s most competitive economies and most technologically developed welfare and information societies. Mobile - Nokia, Finland's largest company, is the world's leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile, fixed and IP networks as well as multimedia terminals. ISP - the Internet connections from homes still are not that common (about 40 % of house holds).
