Mason returned home from Toledo, Ohio Andrew Jackson fired him as governor.  People come to Michigan for different reasons one is for jobs. Everyone needs some money! Another is for food. The third one is for shelter.

But that soon changed.  A few after Houghtingtons report had been published, hundreds of people to the Keweenaw to “strike it rich” in America’s first mineral boom.   Quick Question :

5 The Soo Locks The Soo Locks was a man made water way!  The steamer Illinois became the first boat to past through the Soo locks on June 18 th, 1855.  All though the Soo locks was hard to build, they soon played an important role in America’s industrial growth.  Michiganians argued it would benefit both Michigan and the nation.  It works by one door going down and then the boat goes through. After that, the same door goes up. Then, the water goes to the same level of the other side of the door and the boat enters the area.
