The Houses HHS Bickley House Conham House Hencliff House Cleeve House

Why have a House System? Increases student leadership opportunities. Provides a range of sporting and cultural activities for students to get involved in. Provides more opportunities for students to take responsibility. Creates a sense of ‘belonging’ to something smaller than a big secondary school! It creates a ‘school within a school’. Increases opportunities to mix with older/ younger students and learn from each other.

Conham Conham lies near Hanham on the north bank of the River Avon just outside the city boundaries in South Gloucestershire. The Conham Ferry is a small passenger ferry which operates across the river from Conham to Broomhill. The Conham River Park lies in a loop of the River Avon, and forms part of the Avon Valley Woodlands.

Hencliff An overgrown area woodland and brambles hides the remnants of quarrying. Extensive quarrying has left scars on the landscape, but these are now disguised by much vegetation. This area was quarried for over 1000 years, with local stone thought to have been used for Bristol Castle!

Bickley Bickley Wood is a protected site due to its important geology. Bickley is home to red sand stone which was quarried here in the 19 th century. Quarried stone was loaded onto barges just below the weir at Hanham Mills. It took 2 weeks to get to Avonmouth due to the tides.

Cleeve Like Bickley, Cleeve Wood is a protected site due to the flowering Bath Asparagus. It is located close to Hanham Court, which once belonged to the Monks of Keynsham Abbey. It later was owned by Sir Henry Creswicke, who was Bristol Mayor in 1660.

Increased Leadership Roles Student Academy Council House Councils Community Leaders Enrichment Leaders Student Leadership Team (Post 16) Prefects (KS4) House Captains (Yr. 11) Deputy House Captains (Yr 11)

Why introduce Vertical Tutoring? Vertical Tutoring provides a ‘friendlier’ school with tutor groups having a ‘family’ feel. Tutor groups are smaller. More individual conversations with your tutor about target setting, academic progress and key points in your educational journey. More opportunities to learn from other students e.g. Yr. 10 can support Year 9 with Options Choices. Vertical Tutoring gives you a chance to work with people of different ages and better prepares you for the world of work. What is it? Mixed age Tutor Groups with 4-5 students from Yr 8-11. Year 8 Year 9 Year 10 Year 11
