3 Introduction FrontPage is a powerful tool used to design, create and publish web sites. You choose the type of web site you want, while FrontPage generates and organizes all the web site documents you need. Then you can fill your web site with the text, pictures, sounds and other features you want your visitors to experience. By using a tool like FrontPage, creating a web site is now much easier and more intuitive than it was in the past. You can also skip learning HTML (short for Hypertext Markup Language), which is the language or code that web browsers use to present web content.

4 To do all these tasks, FrontPage offers you three different programs. They are: FrontPage Explorer, FrontPage Editor, and FrontPage Personal Web Server. Front page is WYSISYG (what you see is what you get) editor. As you add components such as text, images, tables and form elements, Front Page displays them as they would appear in a web browser

5 Features of Front Page Front page is a tool for designing a website. The main features of front page are: Powerful: Using FrontPage you can add the most sophisticated features to your website. You can add attractive graphics on your site. You can add links to help visitors within your website. Easy to use: With Front Page you can skip the process of learning HTML code. Front Page automatically generate HTML code for you

6 Cascading Style Sheet Support: Front Page has CSS support for dynamic HTML. We can easily create special effects using the DHTML toolbar. Create WebPages offline: Front Page allows web Designers to create WebPages or complete website offline. FrontPage allows the design to preview how their website is going to look before they upload to the server. Add audio and video: With Front Page software web designer can add audio And video streaming to their website.

7 Starting Front Page Following are the steps to start front page : 1. Click Start button. 2. Select All Programs 3. Click Microsoft Front Page 4. You will see a blank screen.

9 Title Bar : Displays the name of the current page, and its location in your Web site. Menu Bar : Contains menus like File, Edit, View, and Insert, and is the starting point for many of the tasks you will undertake in FrontPage. Page Tab : An easy way to select the page you want when you have several pages open.

10 Ask a Question Box: To find more information about a procedure in FrontPage, type a question in the Ask a Question box, which accesses the online Help system. Close Page : This button closes the page that is currently in view. Scroll Bars These let you move the page so a different portion is displayed. Status Bar: Represents the state of a current task. For instance, the Status Bar may display the text “Retrieving Index.htm” when opening the home page, or show the destination of a hyperlink when you move your mouse cursor over a link in the Normal pane.

11 Page View Panes : These represent the different panes of the workspace. For example, the Normal pane is where you will do most of your work in this tutorial. Other panes are the HTML pane and the Preview pane.Progress Indicator Shows the status of a current action. Estimated Download Time : Gives you an idea of how long it will take a user To view your page in a Web browser. Task Pane : A pane within Office XP programs that provide commonly used commands. Its location and small size allow you to use these commands while still working on your files.

12 Standard and Formatting toolbars : Displayed by default. They provide easy access to the commands you will use most often when working in FrontPage. Views bar : What you see in the main program window depends on the currently selected view. The icons on the Views bar provide different ways of looking at the information on your page or in your Web site.
