Piet Mondrian. They will create visual
artworks that represent the style of Piet
Mondrian. The completed artworks will
show students’ understanding of rectangular geometric shapes and primary colors.

4. Piet Mondrian
Piet Mondrian was a Dutch artist who was famous for making paintings with lots of geometric shapes. He used a ruler to make straight lines across his paper, and he filled in the shapes with color.

5. He is regarded by many as founder of abstract art.

6. Mondrian moved to New York in 1940 to escape World War II.
He loved city life, the artist was extremely productive and completed a large number of paintings.
Mondrian's late works color and grid-like patterns to give a feeling of the fast-paced rhythm of city streets.

Piet Mondrian used the three primary colors a lot in his artwork.
Do you remember what the three primary colors are?
RED, YELLOW & BLUE!

9. USING A RULER draw vertical and horizontal lines that make a “T” (not just a grid) making rectangles. LOOK some are large rectangles and some are small they are NOT all the same size.

10. Using PRIMARY colors, FILL in the rectangles.
Try to make rectangles that touch different colors

11. GLUE pre-cut black paper strips around the rectangles.
