4 The police Origins Bobby - nick name for a British police - Robert 1828 - the Metropolitan Police Force - modern police force, London Nowadays - police organization grown to 52 region police forces

5 Regional variation Service financed by local and central government Home secretary is responsible for the London Metropolitan Police Force England and Wales ScotlandNorthern Ireland police committees formed from councilors and magistrates Regional and islands councils run their own police forces Police force is responsible to a body appointed by the government,reserve force local forces inspected by inspectors of constabulary Also subject to government inspection

6 The role of the police  Maintenance of order -- provides a service to the community such as :1) officer visiting local school to give advice to children; 2)form a ‘neighborhood watch scheme’  Law enforcement -- a force with the primary function of enforcing the criminal law

11 conclusion Experts found out that the society is the origin that the crime is committed,the public is the main force to suppress the crime,not the police. That’s why 80% of the works of British police include helping/associating(with) the communities Independent supervision system, follow rules strictly,  help to build the trust and confidence Attitude towards Chinese police is changing : Slogan : if you have any problem,please call 110
