2. Rachel’s First Five Tuesday (Act of Kindness for the week) Actions truly speak louder than words, but this week let’s see how far our words go. Try to use the words, Please, Thank you, Excuse me, I’m Sorry, and the big 3, I Love You, as much as possible this week. See how people react to you.

3. Hispanic Heritage Month Francisco Jimenez was born in Mexico in 1943. He grew up in a family of migrant workers in California. Francisco spent much of his childhood moving around California with no permanent home or regular schooling. Despite incredible odds he went on to have a distinguished academic career. He wrote the award-winning short story, “The Circuit” based on his childhood. He has also written several othcer young adult books that look at the difficulties faced by non-English speaking students in an English speaking classroom.

4. Impact Aid Forms Attention students—You will be receiving your impact aid forms. They MUST go home for your parents to fill out. They MUST be returned to your Advisory period teacher by Friday October 17, 2014, This Friday. These forms mean money for our school and go towards your education. Help us and you by bringing them back as soon as possible.

5. Volleyball is CANCELED today! All Volleyball players please head home on your bus.

6. Battle of the Books Battle of the books is CANCELED today due to the Parkside Faculty Meeting. You will be meeting next Tuesday, October 21, 2014

7. All County Honors Band Your rehearsal is TOMORROW, Wednesday, October 15, 3:15-5:15pm. Please remember your music and a water bottle! See you then prepared and ready to go.

8. IN HONOR OF TEEN READ WEEK PARKSIDE WILL HAVE A SCHOOLWIDE BOOK SWAP ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17 TH IN HONOR OF TEEN READ WEEK PARKSIDE WILL HAVE A SCHOOLWIDE BOOK SWAP ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17 TH Tuesday, October 14th through Thursday, October 16th, students will bring in their own books to their language arts class. On Friday, October 17th, students will come to the Parkside Book Swap, in the library, to choose a different book to keep. Get more information from your Language Arts teacher.

9. NatureBridge Field Trip 7th & 8th grade students don't forget the NatureBridge Parent information night TONIGHT in the Parkside Library during our Parent Advisory meeting. The NatureBridge speaker will answer all questions at that time. Parkside Library @ 6:30 tonight.

10. Breast Cancer Awareness Month Show your support by doing the following: Make a $1 donation * and get a pink bracelet! (Donations taken during lunches.) PINK OUT Friday’s for the month of October. Wear pink shirts, socks, shoes, etc...to show your support! *All money raised will be donated to a local cancer center

11. Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology Attention 8th graders, If you have applied to Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, applications are due no later than Friday, October 17 2014 at 4pm. Remember this is a strict deadline. Please see Ms. DiMisa in the Counseling Office if you have any questions.

12. Student Council Association Students interested in joining the Student Council Association, Parkside’s student government, need to pick up an application and permission form from Mrs. Drake in room 711 or from the Main Office. Forms are due TODAY, Tuesday, October 14.

13. Chef’s Club There is still room for 9 more students in the Chef’s Club. Sign up now with Mrs. Linda Reynolds in the cafeteria. If you have turned in a Chef’s Club form you are now part of the club! The first meeting will be TODAY, October 14, 2014 and the club will meet once a month after that.

14. Quilting Club The Quilting Club is FULL! The first meeting will be tomorrow, October 15.
