2 Algae Algae are in the protist kingdom, some are unicellular, some are multicellular, all contain chlorophyll and can make their own food. How are algae and plants alike?

3 Name of simple organisms Algae Can make their own food Sometimes called plantlike protist Some unicellular, some multicellular

4 Unicellular Algae Some made of one cell Lives in watery environment Float on top of the water Part of plankton `collection of microscopic organisms Has chlorophyll Can have a color ranging from yellowish- green to golden brown

5 Euglena Both plantlike and animal-like Has its own phylum Contains chlorophyll Uses its eyespot Extends from its body How is the euglena animal-like?

6 Multicellular Algae Some algae has many cells Pigments give green, red, or brown coloring Green algae live in fresh water Red or brown live in ocean and are called seaweed or kelp The brown algae grow the tallest and can wash along shorelines
