4 Adobe Lightroom is a digital photograph management and editing software suite developed by Adobe Systems, designed to assist users in managing digital images and doing post production work. Lightroom combines photo management and editing in one interface.Adobe Systems Lightroom is a image management database that maintains information about images and edits to those images, allowing for nondestructive edits to those images. 5 Lightroom is not a replacement for Photoshop. Develop module is for basic photo editing work, and is nowhere near as powerful as Photoshop Lightroom Mobile Allows for editing images that are store in Lightroom via an iPad or iPhone It is very important to set up the proper folder/file structure before using Lightroom. Master folder that contains multiple folders of images. Photos\Person, Place, or Event Recommend placing the Catalog file on the local drive separate from image folder Allows for editing using smart previews if files are on a disconnected external drive Lightroom Overview Cont.

7 Importing and Exporting of Images Importing using Lightroom’s import Synchronize folder File management Highly recommended that once a image is in Lightroom you do all image management in Lightroom Keywords Allows for searches on keywords such as “waterfalls”, “dog”, “sunset” etc. Image metadata Allows for update the metadata, adding a copyright and other data Lightroom Library Overview

8 Ranking Can rank by color, pick/reject, stars Can be useful for other purposes such as file edit status Searching Can search on keywords, metadata, folders etc. Collections Powerful tool for managing keepers Think of it as a photo album of related images Images in Collections can be edited with Lightroom Mobile on iPads and iPhones Only way of switching between image groupings in develop module Lightroom Library Overview Cont.

17 Importing When importing turn on Smart Previews, Don’t Import Suspected Duplicates Import Presets Copyright and other metadata Keywords for filter on later Development Settings used to apply presets to entire import Lightroom Importing Notes

18 Left Side Catalog – The image database. It contains all images within the catalog regardless of location. Clicking on an option will make visible all images in that option All Photographs – Number of images contained in catalog Quick Collection+ – All photos in the quick collection Previous Import - All images loaded in last import. Also default view after import. Will NOT contain images that were set to Plugins or Photoshop Photos That Failed to Export – All photos that did not export – Running total for catalog Folders List all known locations of where images exists on the computer for a given catalog Collections – Basically Photo Albums of related images decided by the user. Drag and drop once a new collection has been made. Collections – Albums. Also only image list available in the Develop module to allow for quick transition to other images groups via the filmstrip to the bottom of Lightroom Publish Services – Allows users to post to the Internet (i.e. Facebook, Flickr) Lightroom Library Notes

19 Center Library Filter – Allows filtering for whatever catalog/folder the user is viewing Main Panel Grid View – Small preview of all images contain in the selected catalog/folder Loupe View – View individual images larger Compare View – Allows for comparison of two selected images Survey View – Comparison of multiple images at a time. Usefully for quickly culling images Right Side Histogram – Exposure info about image Keywording – Allows for adding keywords to the selected images Keyword List – A list of keywords that have been used in the catalog and number of times for quick reference Metadata – Area to edit metadata for selected images Comments - Comments Sync/Sync Settings – Allows user to apply settings from one images to all other images. 20 Left Side Navigator – Image zoom controls, preview of preset to be applied to image Presets – List of all Global image presets Snapshots – A snapshot in the processing of an image. Allows users to quick revert to a previous version of the image. Manual Process History – All actions applied to the image in Lightroom Collections – Albums, Allows users in the develop module to switch collections easily via the filmstrip. 21 Right Side All development controls for the develop module Typical will work from Top to Bottom with the sections Sections Basic – WB, Exposure, Highlights, Shadow, Whites, Blacks, Saturation, etc. Tone Curve – works the Highlights, Shadow, Whites, Blacks via a tone curve HSL/Color/B&W – Hue, Saturation, and Luminance for colors Split Toning – used for adding color to highlights and shadows Detail – Sharpening and noise reduction Lens Correction – Helps reduce lens imperfections Effects – Vignetting Camera Calibration – Lightroom’s interpretation of your cameras shooting modes such as Standard, Vivid, etc. Lightroom Develop Notes Cont.
