3. A College Focus ► ► From the APS VISTA 2015 Strategic Plan: “Our vision is to graduate every student with the choice to attend college without remediation. This is a bold, no-excuses, no-blame vision that promises higher expectations and higher achievement for every student” (5). ► This means that we must take the ACT seriously if we are to meet this objective.

High Stakes ► The ACT, along with G.P.A., is the gateway to college. ► A prospective college student on average needs a 3.0 G.P.A. and a 24 (out of 36) ACT score to be accepted to 99% of Colorado colleges, including CU and CSU. ► A student would need a 33 on the ACT if he or she has a 2.0 G.P.A..

Reality Check ► The national average for the ACT is 21.1 ► The Colorado state average is 20.6 (which ranks us about 38 th ) ► APS average is 16.7, fluctuating slightly each year. ► Hinkley’s 2013 average is 17.1 – and that is an increase of 0.2 from 2012. ► Less than 40% of Hinkley students are ready for post-secondary educational options.
