2 GENERAL FACTS 2 million British, French and Canadians were trying to invade the Normandy fort that Germany had control over 195,000 naval personnel manned 6,939 naval vessels (including 1,200 warships and 15 hospital ships). 127 more planes were lost on d day Air support operations often overlooked in the success of D-Day had significant losses, Between the 1st of April and the 5th of June, 1944, the Allies flew 14,000 missions losing, 12,000 airmen and 2,000 aircraft. Ended on August 19 1944

General Dwight D. Eisenhower commanded the operation, and plans were made to land in Normandy, west of where the German troops and artillery are built up.

7 HOW IT AFFECTED THE WAR This battle was the first time back in France since the fall of France and the escape at Dunkirk If they didn’t get back into France they wouldn’t of beat Hitler and they would of lost the war This was big break through because they got a lot of information and pushed the Germans back
