Tk20/ ePortfolio Overview Presented by Crystal Nielsen, M.A. E-Learning Services Updated Fall 2011

A Quick Definition… An ePortfolio (short for electronic portfolio) is a collection of multimedia-rich, linked documents that students (and perhaps faculty, programs, and/or administrators) compose, maintain, synthesize, and develop over time. Kirkpatrick, J. (2006, June 2). ePortfolios: Zero to sixty: Assumptions, actions, expectations. Paper presented at the 2006 Sakai/OSP Conference. 2

… In Practical Terms Schools or departments will be able to assess student progress in a definitive manner. Students will be able to develop online showcases of their work at NNU and create resumes that can be customized for potential employers. 3

The Bottom Line ePortfolios help students make sense of higher education through reflective practices that encourage users to connect their learning experiences. (Kirkpatrick, 2006) 4

Levels of Maturation What starts out as a Scrapbook (a la MySpace) soon becomes a Curriculum Vita and eventually Authoritative Evidence for Assessment and Evaluation (Love, McKean & Gathercoal, 2004) 5

Tk20: ePortfolios and More Several NNU departments are now using a web-based application called Tk20, an assessment and reporting system. In addition to tools to manage field experience, create reports based on student progress, and much more, Tk20 includes an ePortfolio aspect. 6

Access Login to the NNU Tk20 site at http://tk20.nnu.edu with your NNU username and your ID number. http://tk20.nnu.edu 7 Notice the tab to access video tutorials, and the link to purchase your Tk20 account (unless you have prepaid a fee along with your tuition).

Home Page Pending Tasks – Links to assignments you need to complete. Preferences – Change your password, set color theme, etc. 8 You won’t see all of these tabs. Pending Tasks will be things to complete from your program or courses.

Courses Tab Tk20 assignments will show here, presented by course. Sometimes, these will be surveys or forms that you must complete related to your progression through your academic program. Other times, these will be related to assignments you completed in class. 9

Artifacts Tab Edit Folders – Create a folder structure here based on your courses. This will help you organize your file uploads for later use. 10 Click Add New to begin adding folders. Stay consistent in your naming so that folders display in the right order.

Portfolios Tab Eventually, you will build a portfolio that showcases how you met the standards outlined for your program. You will draw upon files you uploaded on the Artifacts tab and other items to make this happen. Details will come later. 11

What Next? Log in to Tk20, at http://tk20.nnu.edu.http://tk20.nnu.edu On the Preferences page, change your password. On the Artifacts tab, begin building your folder structure. 12
