2 NUTRITION FACTS * 1. Increasing scientific evidence of harmul effects of TFA on health especially on the risk of coronary heart disease (CVD) TFA consumption is associated with a higher risk for CVD than the consumption of saturated fatty acids 2.Lack of evidence for any beneficial effects on health THEREFORE.... Industrial TFA (I-TFA) were gradually reduced in the USA and Western Europe due to societal pressure and legislative measures! * STENDER et al., N Engl J Med, 2009

7 Results of a market control action 2013 93 samples Bakery (doughnuts, puff pastry), popcorn, sweet spreads NO product with a TFA Content above 2% I-TFA are no longer a problem! I-TFA are no longer a problem! SITUATION IN AUSTRIA AFTER IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NATIONAL TFA REGULATION

9 Significant drop out of I-TFA in products on the Austrian market Results of the regularly market control action had shown that NO product contains more than 2 g/100 g I-TFA No significant increase of saturated fatty acid through the reduction of I-TFA The data show that the Austrian TFA Regulation is a story of sucess towards consumer protection CONCLUSION
