1 Electrum stater of Phocaea in Greece Note the distinctive seal design, 600- 550 BC This is one of the earliest coins ever made. It is from Lydia (in modern Turkey) and dates from about 650-600 BC. [British Museum]

The value is based on the effort it took to obtain the stone from Palau, the number of lives lost in the process and the age of the stone. It lines the paths of the villages and is rarely moved.
