Re-engage young people into education, increase retention and promote inclusion  Achieve accreditation which rewards students for effort/input rather than academic  achievement.  Encourages individuals to take responsibility for their own learning and  development within the framework of a flexible programme  Raise self-esteem, aspirations and improve achievement.

4  aged 13 to 19  educational underachievers  resident in the UK  Educational underachievers are defined as young people who have:  been excluded or suspended from school in the last two years  regularly truanted in the last two years  difficulties in school (i.e. understanding the work, concentration, behaviour, bullying, problems at home, lacking in confidence, learning disability, etc)

5  Prince’s Trust xl clubs have helped over 60,000 young people since they started in 1998  There are currently over 900 clubs in over 600 schools and centres across the UK  The xl programme runs in schools and outside the mainstream centres  89 per cent of young people show personal development  90 per cent of young people show positive skills development across a range of areas  88 per cent of young people have gone into further education, work or training upon completion of the programme  94 per cent of young people would recommend it to others

6 How Does xl work 3 hours contact time per week   12-15 young people per club (1 club per year group)  Student led, but facilitated and supported by an xl club adviser  Develops competencies and skills through a challenging mix of  practical activities that can lead to accreditation
