2  A tool to differentiate between shapes, separate their properties, and explain their relationships.  Shapes on Hierarchy: kite, trapezoid, isosceles trapezoid, parallelogram, rectangle, rhombus and square.

3  “Every property true of all figures of one type in the hierarchy is also true of all figures of all the types below it to which the first is connected.”  Each shape is traced back to a quadrilateral, making each shape a quadrilateral, which is a four sided polygon.

4  The last shape in the hierarchy is the square. This is because it has the most minimum requirements. It is connected to the rhombus and the rectangle. A rhombus because it has four equal sides, and a rectangle because it has four right angles.

5  Seven types of quadrilaterals are related.  Who created it and when is unknown.  However, it should last, because its connections are clean and clear, and summarize the connections between each quadrilateral.
