What are we learning? Understand that shapes fit in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g., quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories. 13 What are the 4 types of angles?
Acute Obtuse Right Straight Copyrighted by Elizabeth Hill, Tricks of the Trade 2013

14 Angles Chant Acute! Acute! I am an acute angle.
I measure less than 90 degrees. I am an acute angle! Obtuse! Obtuse! I am an obtuse angle. I measure more than 90 degrees. I am an obtuse angle. Right! Right! I am a right angle. I am exactly 90 degrees. I am a right angle. Straight! Straight! I am a straight angle. I lay down flat like a line. I am a straight angle. Copyrighted by Elizabeth Hill, Tricks of the Trade 2013

15 I measure less than 90 degrees. I am an ACUTE angle!
What type of angle is this? I measure less than 90 degrees. I am an ACUTE angle! Copyrighted by Elizabeth Hill, Tricks of the Trade 2013

16 I measure more than 90 degrees. I am an OBTUSE angle!
What type of angle is this? I measure more than 90 degrees. I am an OBTUSE angle! Copyrighted by Elizabeth Hill, Tricks of the Trade 2013

17 I measure exactly 90 degrees.
What type of angle is this? I measure exactly 90 degrees. I am a RIGHT angle! Copyrighted by Elizabeth Hill, Tricks of the Trade 2013

18 What types of angles can you spy?
Which shapes have acute angles? Which have right angles? Which have obtuse angles? If you are not sure, you can use a piece of paper to help. The corners of paper are 90˚. Copyrighted by Elizabeth Hill, Tricks of the Trade 2013

Your turn Fold your paper into quarters. Draw and label the four types of angles. 3. Then call me over to check. *Don’t forget to use the Angle Chant Acute Obtuse Right Straight Copyrighted by Elizabeth Hill, Tricks of the Trade 2013

20 Two lines joined together at an end point.
How do you describe an angle? Two lines joined together at an end point. Copyrighted by Elizabeth Hill, Tricks of the Trade 2013

21 What are the different ways lines could interact?
Use two pencils to see the different ways you can lay them without just making a longer line or just 1 angle. They can lay side by side so that they will never touch They cross forming acute and obtuse angles. They cross forming right angles. Copyrighted by Elizabeth Hill, Tricks of the Trade 2013

22 Types of Lines Parallel Intersecting Perpendicular
Lines lay side by side so they will NEVER cross. Lines cross to form acute & obtuse angles. Perpendicular Lines cross percectly to form right angles. Copyrighted by Elizabeth Hill, Tricks of the Trade 2013
