1 Changing the Culture of Child, Youth and School Services I am so excited to be back from TDY and share with you some of the information I received. It is indeed a good day to work for CYS Services. Knowledge imparted to us by our new Army CYS Services Chief focused around the most important person in our organization, the caregiver. Changes that are coming that will hopefully make your life easier include tablets and wi-fi so that staff can do TS Gold and child observations at naptime, one additional planning/training hour per week, focus on improving core programs instead of adding new programs, adding audio to the video surveillance system and getting back to having FUN! Happy Birthday: Sara Regaldo 4/11 Jessica Ramirez 4/21 Ciana Arthur 4/29 Alacia Caillier 4/9 Mirnesa George 4/12 Nathalie Jones 4/22 Katie Kane 4/29 Celeste Mundy 4/4 Deleena Nichols 4/22 Margaret Pruitt 4/21 Vanessa Horn 4/12 Tammy Lewandowski 4/8 Kaylin Valledjuli 4/28 Sandra Elizondo 4/26 What is Your Vision? If you were working in your dream job or center, what would it look like? Please provide feedback so that together we can work on making those dreams come true. Differences between Child and Adult Learners Children Adult Rely on OthersDecide for Themselves Clean SlatePast Experiences No Knowledge ResourcesKnowledge Resources Expect usefulness in long runValidate info based on beliefs and experiences Keep in mind that children learn differently than adults. This information can be useful when planning learning activities that meet the developmental needs of the child. Also important to remember is the fact that 65% of adults are visual learners, 30% of adults are auditory learners and 5% of adults are kinesthetic learners. If we applied those same percentages to children, then 5% of your children, the kinesthetic learners, would have a hard time sitting on the carpet for circle time. Remember to limit large group activities and include frequent periods of movement. One idea would be to plan alternative hands-on activities for those kinesthetic learners. The goal is to make the activity successful for both you and the child.

2 Dates to Remember: 1 Apr – Kick Off and Balloon Launch 3 Apr – Family Movie Night 6 Apr – Pancakes with Parents 9 Apr – SAS Mobile Hometown 10 Apr – PT with Parents 16 Apr – CDC Dance Party 17 Apr – Field Day 18 Apr – CYS Services Bike Rodeo 24 Apr – Carnival Day 24 Apr – MST Operation Megaphone 30 Apr – Kid’s Parade Month of the Military Child. Since 1986, the month of April has been dedicated to celebrating the contributions and recognizing the sacrifices of our military children. Frequent moves and long periods of family separation can make military life challenging. Child, Youth and School Services recognizes these challenges and is proud to offer our military families quality programs and services that positively impact the wellbeing of their children and enhances Army readiness. Parent Participation. Parent involvement is greatly encouraged in all CYS Services activities but never more so than month of the military child. Please remind parents that they can earn parent participation points by participating in many of the events this month. See Calendar for details and additional dates. Kids Included Together (KIT). The “Including All Children” Module Series for Infants, Toddlers, Preschoolers and School Age children are no longer required. Special Needs Training will now consist of four KIT online training modules on inclusion of children with disabilities. Introduction to Inclusion will be completed during Orientation Training. Supporting Positive Behaviors will be completed during Entry Level Training. Respectful Accommodations will be completed during Skill Level Training and Partnering with Families will be completed during Target Level Training. In addition, with the KIT Inclusion Support Center help is a phone call away. Kids Included Together provides strategies and support for staff to help children of all abilities to succeed. Please let your trainer or manager know prior to calling the center.
