3 Screencasting A tool for a new generation.

4 What is screencasting? a digital recording of a computer screen’s output, often containing audio narration sometimes known as video screen capture

5 Why use Screencasting? Uses: To capture a meeting, seminar or class when you want to save it or share it To post for students who are absent due to short term or long term illnesses or who take educational trips To include video lessons in e-classes To capture samples of student work as they demonstrate proper procedures to solve a problems or make presentations. Uses: The student who wants to take two singletons, scheduled at the same time, has the opportunity to stay current on both by splitting their time between the two and watching the on-line videos An excellent study guide for those who chose to review the lessons before the test Preparation for those who will eventually take an on-line course Starring SHS classrooms

8 Creating a Screencast with Active Inspire Open active-inspire Choose the video camera tool Minimize the tool bar (optional) Move the icon to a corner of the screen Press record Choose the output folder Name the file Begin your presentation Stop the recording when finished and name your file

With windows media encoder: Open windows encoder Choose New Session Choose Capture Screen Entire screen Click on capture audio from default device Next Choose the file storage location Next High quality Next Unclick begin when I click finish Finish Set up what you want to capture Click Start encoding When finished click Stop

11 Converting Files with AVC Open AVC To Set Output folder Choose file Set output folder Navigate to the output folder To add files to convert Choose file Add videos Navigate to the video Choose the conversation settings Profile: flv Frame Size: 640 x 480 Choose Convert Close when finished

12 Posting Files to MOODLE Each wiki or website has different formats but they are also similar Posting to MOODLE Open the appropriate MOODLE page Turn on editing Scroll to the desired box Choose to add a resource Give the file a name Choose to upload a file Press upload Select the desired file Press choose Set to view in a new window Save and return to course

13 Posting Files to MOODLE IF the files are too large: Right click on the file in explorer Choose send to compressed folder Then upload OR Drop the file into windows movie maker and split it and save the parts as part 1 and part 2 etc.
