This device tells you how fast you are driving. SPEEDOMETER

This device tells you how far your vehicle has traveled. It is illegal to tamper with this: ODOMETER

This tells you engine revolutions per minute: In other words how hard your engine is working. TACHOMETER

This means your coolant in your engine is too hot! TEMPERATURE LIGHT/GAUGE

This does not tell you how much you have in your engine, rather that it is not circulating properly. You need this to lubricate your engine! OIL LIGHT/GAUGE

Shows the amount FUEL GAUGE

If this light comes on your vehicles electrical system is in trouble. When this light comes on the engine must use stored electricity from the battery. ALTERNATOR

Click it or Ticket! SEAT BELT LIGHT

This light will tell you if these are working properly. AIR BAGS

KEEP YOUR HANDS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL! – IF YOUR ARM IS ACROSS THE AIRBAG WHEN IT ACTIVATES YOUR ARM OR SHOULDER WILL BREAK INSTANTLY. AS THE BAG CONTINUES TO INFLATE, IT WILL ALSO BREAK YOUR WRIST AND NOSE.

Start Your Engines Turn key to start and then release Read gauges – All red lights should be off – Fuel level

Moving the Car Press foot on brake Select Gear Signal Check mirrors Blind spot check

Lane Change Signal Check Mirrors Blind Spot Check Accelerate Cancel Signal

Stopping and Parking Position in proper lane Signal Check traffic Release pressure on Accelerator and Brake Place gear into park while holding down the brake Turn ignition off

Acceleration Control Press the accelerator smoothly Accelerate smoothly Work to maintain a steady speed

Braking Control Braking Point – The point at which the brakes begin to slow the vehicle Constant Braking pressure – Constant pressure on brake to activate the brakes without causing your brakes to lock up Normal Smooth Stop – To make smooth stop, release some braking pressure 1 or 2 seconds before vehicle comes to complete stop Hard, Smooth Stop – Apply max braking pressure, with releasing some pressure again 1 or 2 seconds before actual stop ABS Braking – When ABS activates brake pedal may begin pulsating, which is normal. Do not release your foot pressure.

Exiting Vehicle Shift to Park and set parking brake if needed. Take foot off of brake Turn off headlights and accessories Take off seat belt Turn the ignition off Check traffic Open the door as little as necessary and close it as soon as possible Lock doors, walk to the rear of the vehicle so that you face traffic to detect any problems.
