During the late 1800s to early 1900s -Hard labor for most of the workers -Think coal mining, steel and iron production, factory settings Today – contemporary times -Refers to a portion or sector of an economy -Think healthcare, oil, chemical “industries” (much of the work is done in an office setting – not hard labor)
