3 How do I find out what is available? Use WebCat or TDNet WebCat is the catalogue for all of the university libraries and lists resources held by them. TDNet is our e-journal catalogue

4 Where your resources are kept

5 Where are my resources kept? 1 Level 1 (downstairs)  Journals – Geography per G per GG  Books – Education – Fine Arts – Linguistics – Modern Languages  Maps  Microfilms  Newspapers

6 Where are my resources kept? 2 Level 2 (entrance level) Course Collection (items on short loan) Found to the left of the Loans Desk

7 Where are my resources kept? 3 Level 3 Geography books are mainly found in sections with letters G-GF, and also in QE. Other subjects include: Science, Social Sciences, Statistics, Law, Health, Official Publications and the European Documentation Centre.

8 Where are my resources kept? 4 Level 4 Archaeology, History, Archives and Special Collections. Some geographical material is held with history and archaeology stock. Hampshire/New Forest material is held in Special Collections in the Cope collection.

9 Where your resources are kept? 5 Level 5  Music  Music Scores  Film  Philosophy  Literature

10 Loans Desk  Is on the ground floor (Level 2).  Present your ID/Smartcard to borrow books. Where do I go to borrow something?

11 Borrowing and returning items Self-issue/ return units You can use the Self- Issue machines found on Levels 2 and 3. Self-return is available on Level 2 only, at the end of the Loans Desk, for you to return your books.

12 How do I return things? 1 Use the Level 2 Self Issue/Return machines. Follow the on- screen instructions and then place the items in the Red Book Containers.

13 How do I return things? 2 Course Collection books … should be returned to the Loans Desk or via the Self- Issue machine in the Course Collection area.

14 Printing and copying Self-service copying and printing.  Main area – Level 2, right hand side of corridor leading towards workstation rooms  Also available on other floors

15 How do I pay for copying and printing? Moneyloaders On Level 2 corridor you will find Money loader machines where you can add credit to your electronic printing and copying account.

16 What sort of workspaces are there in the library? 1 There are a variety of workspaces in the Library. On Level 4 there is a large open area with study desks.

17 What sort of workspaces are there in the library? 2 Level 2 iSolutions workstations. For access to: the internet, electronic journals, books and databases. iSolution workstation computers are also available on other levels.

18 What sort of workspaces are there in the library? 3 Levels 1, 2, 3 and 5 Group Study Rooms Book these at the Reception desk for working in small groups.

19 Where can I use the Internet in the library? 1 Available in the library:  Laptop and wireless access  Network plug-in points  iSolutions work stations

20 Where do I go if I need help? 1 Reception Desk (At the entrance to the Library)  basic library queries  book Group Study rooms

21 Where do I go if I need help? 2 Level 3 Subject Enquiry desk ask here for help to find the resources you need.

22 Where do I go if I need help? 3 Touch Screens There are touch screens on Levels 2, 3, 4 and 5 to help you locate books and periodicals in all the University libraries.

23 Where do I go if I need help? 4 Floor plans  available on every floor

24 Where do I go if I need help? 5 Assistive Technology Service (ATS) (Level 2)  for users with disabilities or dyslexia  Individual help and training are provided  Registration required

25 Note: Fire curtains closes off the main staircase on some levels, so locate your nearest fire exit. Leave the building using the nearest fire exit Users with mobility problems go to nearest Fire Refuge Point. Proceed to the fire assembly point, moving away from the building. Wait until you are directed to return to the Library by Security Fire alarms - Continuous ringing

26 Can I use my mobile in the Library? Entrance Hall Level 2 Calls can be made and answered in the Entrance Hall on Level 2. In the rest of the Library, please switch your phone off or to ‘silent’.

27 Eating and Drinking Levels 1 – 3:  covered drinks  cold food Levels 4-5:  bottled water only Sit down to eat or drink

28 Where can I go for food and drink?  Lattés Café (on the right, main entrance)  Drinks (covered, non- alcoholic) & cold food on levels 1, 2, 3  Bottled water only on 4 & 5
