Complimenting someone or doing something that shows you care about them is rather like giving them a ‘golden gift’. Poison arrows Put-downs and behaving unkindly to other people can get under our skin and make us feel bad about ourselves, like ‘poison arrows’.

7 Dionne List the things that the character likes about themselves and their lives, and another for things they dislike. Likes Dislikes

8 What am I like? Rosie and Dionne don’t always recognise their gifts and talents themselves. Write down three things you like about yourself, and three things you like about your partner. In turn, share the three things you like about your partner, and then ask them to tell you what they like about themselves. Are they the same or different? Are you surprised?

9 Homework Chat Show Role play
Write a script for a chat show on which people bring you their problems. One part will need to take the role of Dionne who explains her feelings, while the other is the chat show host who gives advice. You will need to think about: What feelings Dionne has. Why the situation might cause her to feel these things (using what you know about change). What she is already doing that helps her change her feelings. What else could she could try.

10 Plenary Identify some of the emotions Dionne is feeling. Give reasons for why she is displaying these emotions. Back Next
