Control your behavior regardless of others and make a choice to do right things right. Clean up after yourself. Use common sense, decency, and manners while in the cafeteria for breakfast or lunch. Use restroom supplies in an appropriate and responsible manner. Leave restrooms neat and orderly. Enter the bus in a safe and orderly fashion. Immediately take a seat and refrain from loud talking or noises. Refrain from eating or drinking on the bus. Remove all personal belongings as you exit the bus. Respect Others Speak to others in a kind manner and call people by their appropriate name. Treat others in a cooperative fashion and seek to help other people. Listen to others when they have a legitimate role of speaking aloud in class. Demonstrate courtesy and respect to all cafeteria staff. Touch and handle only your food items during your stay in the cafeteria. Engage only in conversations with people seated at your table. Walk to your right side of the hallway. Keep continuous movement in hallways and stairwells. Move with the most minimum level of noise and sound. Exit from the hallway as soon as possible Refrain from conversations while in the restroom. Utilize common sense and common courtesy in using restroom supplies. Exit restroom immediately upon completion, allowing others an opportunity. Exhibit decency and manners while on the bus. Allow others to share the bus seat with you without hesitation or hindrance. Show kindness to other students and obedience to the driver. Clear from aisle immediately and take your seat. Respect the Learning Come to school everyday and report to class prepared and on time. Take pride in tour learning area by keeping it neat and clean. Value your school supplies and materials as essential instruments. Cherish the opportunity you have to increase your knowledge. Demonstrate your best work as you complete all assigned assignments. Adhere to all cafeteria policies and procedures. Move from the line to your assigned section. Sit at your tablein chair in an appropriate manner. Remain in your seat at the table in your assigned area until your teacher directs you to assemble in a line to return to class. Move from the line to your assigned section and take a seat immediately. Refrain from disturbing classes while in the hallway. Secure and possess valid hall pass if in the hallway. 12 How we teach the rules and procedures Prevention Model Fight Free Schools- encourage problem solving by utilizing conflict resolution, and by significantly reducing bullying and fighting. MCS Family Life Education and Health & Wellness Curricula-taught in PE and classrooms by employing No Bullying, Too Good for Violence, and Too Good for Drugs techniques. Airways Middle School incorporates a comprehensive violence prevention program entitled G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) which is taught in the 7 th grade science classes.

13 School-Wide Procedures Students must report to homeroom by 7:a.m. Students must exit the building promptly at 2:15p.m. Students will exchange classes under the strict supervision of a team of teachers. Students must use the restroom during the changing of classes. Students must eat during their scheduled lunch times. Students should walk on the right side of the hallway and adhere to Zone signs.

14 Classroom Procedures Students must adhere to rules posted in teachers’ classrooms. Students in the hallway during instructional time must have a hall pass. Students must enter the classroom with necessary supplies. Students should not leave the classroom the first nor the last fifteen minutes of the class period.

28 Monitoring Process School, classroom, and individual discipline data are analyzed each six weeks by the Student Behavior Committee. Needed adjustments are made to the school-wide behavior plan, coaching is provided for teachers, and the S-Team process is used to develop intervention plans for students with at-risk behaviors.

32 Intervention Plan In-School Suspension Plan ISS is one consequence in our system of progressive levels of consequences. Students complete individual assignments, reflect on their ISS placement, and discuss, the practice, positive behavior choices. Students will complete individual packets of classroom assignments.

33 In-School Suspension Plan Airways Middle School follows the guidelines of Memphis City Schools through the Division of Student Engagement for the ISS Program. Students are referred by the administration, and monitored by the ISS teacher and the school administration. Activities in room include class assignments from teachers, character education building activities, real-world discussions, and anger management activities. Student support includes: ISS teacher, teachers,volunteers, peer tutoring, and parents.

34 Secondary Intervention Evaluation We will use the data from the Chancery SMS system to determine if our interventions are successful.

35 Tertiary Interventions The School Support team identifies students through teacher referrals and discipline infractions. Our behavior intervention plan is called the Progressive Discipline System (PDS) We monitor these interventions with data from the Chancery SMS.

36 Results Our ADA has increased from 89% to 92%. Alternative consequences other than suspension. Airways was the only middle school to participate in the “Hold My Hand Project” to increase parental involvement with incentives. We will use data from REA to compare last year’s numbers with the previous year’s

38 Celebration Airways Jets Award celebrates the unique contributions of faculty, staff, and students toward the accomplishments of school goals. School-wide and teacher academic achievements are celebrated at the beginning of the year. Individual students, homerooms, entire grade-levels, and the entire school enjoy celebrations for achieving fight-free goals. Parties are given when bus riders and homerooms achieve school goals An eighth grade year-end picnic, promotion program, and 8 th grade week will be used as rewards. Individual classroom and team celebrations, pizza parties, and field trips will also be utilized as means of celebration.

39 Conclusion Airways Middle School is implementing the current school-wide discipline plan. The goal of each member is to demonstrate Relationships, Responsibilities, and Results and to provide an equal opportunity for every child to learn in a positive environment.
