2. Pollution When harmful contaminants enter an environment which then makes the environment unfit for desired or intended use. Pollution has become commonplace in area throughout the world especially in industrial cities and must be stopped. The three major types of pollution are water, air and land.

3. Causes of Pollution Deforestation - trees are cut down in very large quantities to make way for factories, industries etc. without replanting new trees. When wastewater and liquids from plants and factories are connected with a nearby river, which then becomes polluted because of the waste disposal. Oil spills from ships.

5. Causes of Pollution Each year, industrially advanced countries produce billions of tons of pollutants. Sulphur dioxide is formed from electric power plants burning coal or oil. Many pollutants can damage crops. Vehicles can also generate harmful gases and pollute the air. People suffer from the smoke and smell of some factories.

6. Household wastes can also pollute the environment. For example, plastic can take hundreds of years to break down.

7. Effects of Pollution Harmful substances including greenhouse gases, sulfate, ammonium, nitrate, dust aerosols, and black carbon are increasing the surface air temperature across the Arctic at a rate faster than anywhere else. Some models predict that summer sea ice may disappear by 2040 Air pollution by ozone, CO2, and aerosols lower the global air quality, changing climates putting some ecosystems in jeopardy. Ozone layer is also depleting due to pollution, which can be disastrous towards organisms since the ozone layer blocks most UV rays.

8. It can be seen that pollution levels are higher in major cities.

9. Pollution heavily affects many aspects of our environment often negatively.

10. Effects Continued Pesticides also affect biological factors since most people use non-selective pesticides ( pesticides that kill everything but the target being preserved). Thus can lead to many crops being damaged and many other organisms being killed. The equilibrium in ecosystems is thrown off as a result.

11. Pollution is also linked with potentially global warming and water levels.
