New pathways to reduce industrial greenhouse gas emissions.

Why ?

THE LOW CARBON FUTURE IS COMING. WHO WILL PROVIDE THE SOLUTIONS?

WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER Atmospheric carbon is a global challenge. Climate consequences will affect everyone. As priority escalates world-wide, industrial emissions intensity will be decisive for access and competition in the market.

What ? Section 2.0

From ‘Eye in the sky’ to ‘Boots on the ground’. CMC’s role has grown. From overseeing and administering academic research - to performing and managing the development and validation of solutions for industry.

Who is CMC? Truly neutral, independent not-for-profit – Not government – Not industry – Not academic Single mission: provide solutions toward elimination of industrial greenhouse gas emissions Not an advocate – provide options, let others (“society”) decide 7

Section 2.0 Ideas to Impact

Section 2.0 TAKE ME TO THE PILOT CMC takes technology from insights and concepts to pilot-scale projects and field verification. Adaptation, integration, translation, validation, application development … It’s R&D, with a heavy focus on the ‘D’. Our adaptable, agile, “semi-virtual” business model allows us to activate quickly and cast a wide net for available resources.

Section 2.0 “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Working together, CMC will bring global capacity to help our clients go fast AND far.

Section 2.0 INFORMATION. DECISION. ACTION. CMC provides a single point of contact to shop the world for innovations and technologies. We are a vehicle for project-focused collaboration or long-term programs. The objective is to reduce uncertainty to enable confident action.

Section 2.0 Innovative elements + Proven systems Industrial solutions Solutions for industrial challenges: Must be Scalable, Manufacturable, and Integratable; Requires Financial support, Market access, and Early adopters; Must meet commercial risk/reward criteria CMC can help pull the right team together

Section 2.0 44 RESEARCH PROJECTS = $22M

Section 2.0

Section 3.0 The New Path Forward

Section 3.0 Bringing together diverse perspectives opens the door to innovative thinking. We span the gap between academia and industry, and tap a global network of deep discipline experts to enrich the decision-making pool.

CMC Research Institutes, Inc. 17 Admin/Finance/Communications/Events Convener CaMI Containment & Monitoring Field Station(s) Geosciences Instrumentation Technical staff CCCI Capture & Conversion Bench pilot facility Chem/Bio/Nano Eng’g/Tech Scale-up Integration Manufacturing Next? … Ad-hoc Projects Time-limited Vehicle for contracting IP holder (if needed) Manage gov’ funds Collaboration platform Capture & maintain legacy elements Potentially: Energy Storage large electric thermal chemical Energy info & modeling Bio-storage, -energy, -products, …

Section 3.0

Funding Model

What do we do Identify and validate key enabling technologies Work with developers (SME’s, etc.) & users – Pull the pieces together: Manufacturing / fabrication Scalability (who can help?) Investment partners Market channels Early adopters 20

What else? Technology testing & validation providing – Vehicle for consortium pursuit of funding – Rigorous stakeholder-driven TQAP/ Test program execution – Field operational or controlled performance testing at industrial or Field Research Station – Pilot testing facilities (planned) e.g. 1 to 5 tonne+ CO 2 capture/conversion from natural gas sources Support for development of policy, regulatory and industry best practices – external expert “unbiased” reviews or comment 21

Vehicle for collaborative ad hoc projects Deep Decarbonization Pathways Project – Team Canada Navius Research Sustainable Prosperity Representing a ‘national’ connection point for international collaboration Corporate entity to hold contracts etc. outside of university or industry context – Pre-commercial project-based work 22

Prospective future initiatives Field performance validation of pilot scale capture technologies Manage/operate pilot testing facility for GHG capture & capture/conversion tech. Work with industry & researchers to develop & implement pathways to accelerate new tech Host/curate/maintain data sets & analysis tools for government/industry/research Piloting/test facilities for scale-up – Mining – Oil sands – ?? 23

THE LOW CARBON FUTURE STARTS NOW. We envision a global collaborative network leading in the development of solutions to industrial GHG emissions. We anticipate industrial sectors known for innovative low-carbon technologies. We foresee low net carbon footprint products welcomed in a carbon constrained world.
