6 Requirements Band 5 staff nurse Have completed a recognised QIS (qualification in speciality) Build up personal workbook of evidence of experiential learning Participate in supervision and record reflections on key learning events Time frame : 6 months or more Nurse in charge Be willing to empower junior staff to take control Support their learning and development Share responsibility Be willing to accept orders rather than give orders

19 Leading Care, Leading Teams – Shaping the Future Ward Sister/Charge Nurse and Team Leader Conference, 17 th April 2013 Success of the Programme 3 years on Initially Band 5 Staff Nurse was encouraged as part of KSF process to undertake the programme Now Band 5 staff are requesting to undertake the programme Band 5 staff are being inspired by those around them to succeed Band 5 Staff Nurses have undertaken the challenge, have awaited promotional opportunities within neonatal services across the Trust and 6 staff have been successful at interview and have been promoted.
