2 Why we talking about CED and social inclusion. In spite of strong ‘economic growth’ many communities in Canada have seen increasing levels of inequality, disadvantage and decline. Territorial, parts of territories, cultural, linguistic, ethnic

6 Community Economic Development Action by people locally, to create economic opportunities and enhance the social and environmental conditions of their communities, particularly with those most marginalised, on a sustainable and inclusive basis Social Inclusion The ability to participate effectively in economic, social, political, and cultural life of society About having what is "needed materially and socially to live comfortably" (Maritime Centre of Excellence for Women's Health). Both a process and a goal; it is about understanding where we want to be and how to get there
