6 LIS Courses (III) Short courses Refresher training courses for Teacher Librarians [EMB] from 2002 Postgraduate Certificate in Archival Studies [EASTICA] from Jan 2003

7 Certificate Courses for Library Assistants a joint programme with the Hong Kong Library Association (HKLA) since 1964 a sub-professional course for library assistants one English and one Chinese classes part-time evenings + practical

8 Course Structure (Cert for LA) Four Parts: 1.Library Routines and Methods 2.General Library Principles and Practice 3.Children’s and School Libraries 4.Practical Work and Visits to Libraries (Some weekday evenings and or Sat mornings and/or afternoons)

9 Cert for LA Entrance Requirements –pass in 5 HKCEE subjects, including English & Chinese –or equivalent –Priority will be given to those working in libraries September – June Tuesdays 6:30-9:30pm Fee (2006): $5,150 Further Study: Dip LIS/BA (LIS)

10 Diploma in Teacher Librarianship To provide school librarians with the professional knowledge and skills on: –library and information science –analyzing information needs for teachers and learners –the use of information and learning resource according to curriculum objectives 13 modules to be completed in 2 years

13 Diploma in Teacher Librarianship Entrance Requirements –Have a Teacher Certificate or equivalent qualification and a minimum of two years teaching experience –*Newly appointed Teacher Librarians, Serving Teacher Librarians or Subject Teachers –Supporting document certifying the applicant is a Teacher Librarian will be an advantage. Note: All New Teacher Librarians should apply through the EMB Training Calendar.

14 Diploma in Teacher Librarianship Commencing Oct/Nov 2006 3 to 6 hours per week Full time on Tuesdays and Saturdays and in weekday evenings Fee (2006): Year 1 $10,000 and Year 2 $10,000 Further Study: BA (LIS) / MAS (LIM) Information seminar: 20 Sept 2006 (Wed) 7-9pm [Rm S202, 2/F, Admiralty Centre]

15 Higher Diploma for Library and Information Studies a full-time course for Form 5 / Form 7 graduates under the SPACE Community College vocational, sub-professional training library and information support staff in libraries, information agencies and organizations

16 HD for LIS A Full-time programme Subjects: –library and information studies subjects –IT subjects –Management subjects –Practical, study visits, and work placement (Y2 & Y3) –generic subjects

22 Special Features  Site visits enable you to share the knowledge of experienced information practitioners  Problem-based learning components allow you to manage your own learning in an independent way  Work placement in Yrs 2 & 3 give you the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of working in libraries and turning classroom theory into practice  The college organizes these job placements for you

23  Student Members Students are eligible for student membership  Associate Members Upon graduation and employment in libraries or other information organizations
